Perennial of the week - English Ivy

PERENNIAL OF THE WEEK

English Ivy, aka Hedera Helix

·         Prefers part sun to full shade with well drained soil

·         Evergreen

·         A ground cover that spreads horizontally as far as you allow and is 8” tall

·         Green waxy leaves that keep their color all year long

·         Can be trained to climb and will attach itself to trees, trellis, etc

USES

Best used as a groundcover, looks great around boulders.  Also, used frequently for under large trees where it is tougher to get grass or other plants to grow due to the shade.  Also excellent for soil erosion on hillsides.
